PMI and EMI Featured in the Conscious Change Collective Map

The Prison Mindfulness Institute (PMI) and the Engaged Mindfulness Institute (EMI) are honored to be included in the Conscious Change Collective Map, a project designed to make visible the global network of organizations working at the intersection of mindfulness, justice, and systemic transformation.

"The map will be designed to illuminate the field, spark collaboration, and support the flow of learning and resources. By building community and making visible the deep wisdom already at work, together we can co-create and scale deep, systemic transformation."

The Challenge

The Conscious Change Collective begins with a clear view of our challenges. As social and environmental crises deepen, many leaders and practitioners are stretched thin—caught between the urgent demands of outer action and the equally important need for inner work. Burnout, isolation, and disconnection from self, community, and the natural world are widespread.

Too many efforts toward change remain fragmented in a culture marked by fear and division. While individuals and organizations worldwide are weaving spirituality, contemplative practice, and community wisdom into movements for justice, these efforts are often siloed, missing the chance to learn from one another, share what works, and build collective strength.

The Opportunity

The map responds to this challenge by offering a way to weave a new field. It provides a space where organizations and practitioners can see themselves as part of a larger, living ecosystem—one that values both reflection and action, spirit and strategy, healing and justice.

This project is an invitation to connect. By making visible the breadth and depth of this work across cultures and contexts, the Conscious Change Collective Map amplifies our collective impact. It fosters the relationships needed to create lasting transformation.

PMI and EMI on the Map

As part of this growing network, PMI and EMI are highlighted for their contributions to integrating contemplative practice with social change:

  • Prison Mindfulness Institute (PMI) brings mindfulness-based programs, such as Path of Freedom®, into prisons and correctional facilities. These programs support incarcerated individuals in cultivating self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and resilience—tools that not only ease personal suffering but also contribute to more compassionate prison cultures.

  • Engaged Mindfulness Institute (EMI) prepares mindfulness teachers and facilitators with a trauma-informed, justice-centered approach. Graduates of EMI’s training programs bring mindfulness into diverse settings, from schools and community organizations to carceral systems, strengthening the movement for healing and equity.

Why It Matters

Including PMI and EMI in the Conscious Change Collective Map underscores that this work is not happening in isolation. It is part of a much larger shift—toward approaches that recognize the necessity of inner transformation and outer action.

By appearing alongside organizations worldwide, PMI and EMI are situated within a shared story: one that acknowledges the depth of our crises but also affirms that solutions are emerging through connection, compassion, and conscious practice.
